The value of real world data is frequently debated. This is very much dependent on the perspective of the person who is reviewing the data.
If you are able to use real world data to demonstrate to a payer that they can improve the care the offer at the same time as they reduce the cost it is highly relevant to them.
In a recent conference by next level life science, Viktor Makowski from Hologic presented an interesting case study of how they used German Real World Data to develop an argument in the negotiation with insurance companies. They demonstrated how the shift from an in-patient treatment to the outpatient setting can lead to improved outcomes for the patient and reduction of cost to the insurance company. This proposition is now gradually being accepted by more and more insurance companies in Germany.
